SemTalk - Ontology-Editor for MS Office
Ontologies will drive the integration of applications and the configuration of Knowledge Management Systems. Based on Microsoft Visio SemTalk provides you with all modeling functionality needed to create professional ontologies complying with W3C’s recommendation OWL.
Formalized glossaries are used frequently these days in order to configure applications like document management systems, content management systems or search engines. They represent the topic structure in a specific domain and determine navigational structures and clustering. Technologies of the Semantic Web enable applications to retrieve data and annotated documents by interpreting their meta data. Knowledge management processes and EAI processes are raised to a semantic level and provide a formerly unknown flexibility.

Office Server System (MOSS) provides
basic functionality for information management beyond document management.
Solutions like Microsoft InfoPath for maintenance of structured XML data
complement the Information Workplace.
So what does this have to do with SemTalk and MS Visio? SemTalk allows you to
model concept models in a structured way, based on the graphical user interface
of Microsoft Visio. Visio shapes help for a better understanding of these models.
New solutions for the Information Worker show that formalized information will
be the central building block of the Microsoft Office System. In order to
understand, document and edit these information Microsoft Visio in combination
with SemTalk becomes an integral tool for knowledge modeling inside the Office
System.
SemTalk contains a graphical modeling environment for the Web Ontology Language (OWL). Existing OWL Ontologies can be used as well as RDFS or Topic Maps. To check consistency while modeling we are using the Open Source OWL Reasoner PELLET. Other useful reasoners are Ontobroker, Cerebra, FACT or Racer.
